Fortunate Kiss set for Flemington swansong before heading to stud

Fortunate Kiss may make her final race appearance on Saturday at Flemington, with the mare set to head to stud this season.

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained galloper lines up in the Victorian Jockeys’ Association Trophy (1410m) before being offered in the Magic Millions Virtual Sale next week.

Purchased last year by clients of Kennewell, she’s paid her way with a win in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap and a runner-up finish in the Listed Wangoom Handicap.

“She’s had a very good prep,” Kennewell said.

After stints in Warrnambool, Queensland and Sydney, she’s now back in Melbourne and reportedly fresh and in good order.

“She’s a valuable mare having won the Stakes race that she didn’t have before,” Kennewell said.

The rising seven-year-old has enjoyed consistent care during her travels, and connections are hopeful she has one strong run left before retiring to the breeding barn.
