Imported galloper Loresho first came to the attention of OTI Racing’s Terry Henderson two years ago.

Henderson considered Loresho a potential Melbourne spring campaigner and was negotiating a deal to buy him from the French stables of Jean-Claude Rouget.

But he was forced to abandon his plans when Loresho suffered a tendon injury.

A year ago Henderson was told Loresho was to go through a sale as a stallion prospect.

“I had a look at him. The tendon was still there but he walked sound,” Henderson said.

Henderson decided to take a punt on Loresho and was able to secure him for a lot less than he would have paid first time around.

Loresho was sent to Lee Evison who has had success with other horses with tendon injuries and the now six-year-old is ready for his racetrack return in the Rod Johnson Handicap (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

“I’m actually quite excited to see him run on Saturday,” Henderson said.

“There are missions you get and this horse was one of mine so it’s great to see him back at the races.

“He’s a serious horse and they’ve given him a 97 rating.

“If he stays sound he might be around for the spring and he’s a top of the ground horse.”

Henderson said trainer Darren Weir had done a great job preparing Loresho in the open spaces and beaches at Warrnambool.

“Weiry’s ability with bull’s (entires), we haven’t seen in this industry,” Henderson said.

“He gets horses that could walk over the top of you and gets them to settle.

“I’m convinced it’s the open space down there and the lovely big boxes that are six metres by six metres that suit those stallions.”

Loresho hasn’t raced since finishing second in a Group Two 2500m race at Deauville in August 2015.

He is a five-time winner from 11 starts but is yet to race at a trip any shorter than 2000m.
