Promising filly Mareth is set for a key autumn challenge as she lines up against seasoned mares in the Millie Fox Stakes at Rosehill.

The three-year-old has only competed five times, securing her maiden victory at Canterbury back in December prior to finishing runner-up to star filly Caffe Florian in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).

Michael Freedman, her trainer, has elevated the competition level for this first-up run, where she confronts experienced horses like Lazzura, Oh Diamond Lil, and her own stablemate Cinsault, while stretching out to 1300m for the initial occasion.

Zac Lloyd is back aboard Mareth following their Gosford outing and describes her as an uncomplicated three-year-old brimming with potential.

“She is a very nice filly. A pleasure to ride, and she does everything right,” Lloyd said.

“She has obviously made her way through the grades quite quickly.

“She was unlucky not to win the Gosford Guineas. Her performance was very good, we just bumped into a very smart horse.

“We will get a good guide on her level at the moment after Saturday.”

Lazzura stands as the dominant $2.50 favourite aiming to deliver Chris Waller his eighth success in the Millie Fox Stakes (1300m), marking his third consecutive triumph after Firestorm (2025) and Zougotcha (2024).

Chris Waller also fields Pinito at $12, who returns after placing second in the Queensland Oaks (2200m) last June and now debuts for the stable having previously been under James Cummings.

Pinito joins fellow Godolphin contenders Mareth ($10) and Cinsault ($6.50) in the fillies and mares showdown.
