Joe Pride will unleash both a fresh face and a familiar name in Saturday’s Sydney Stakes (1200m), confident his pair can make an impact in the Group 3 feature.
Former Godolphin star Golden Mile will debut for Pride, joining stablemates Coal Crusher and Dragonstone.
Pride said Dragonstone would improve with racing but expects strong showings from the other two, with blinkers back on Coal Crusher after his solid Warwick Farm return.
“The one people aren’t looking at at all is Coal Crusher,” Pride said.
“But his run first-up was super and he gets the blinkers straight back on.”
Golden Mile, who once stood briefly at stud before being gelded, showed good form last prep when finishing behind Joliestar in the Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m).
“I know (jockey) Adam (Hyeronimus) was really keen to ride him,” Pride said.
“He’s not a bad horse on his day either, a proper Group One horse and most of these horses in this race can’t say the same.”
Golden Mile is also among the emergencies for The Everest (1200m), and Pride said he’d welcome the chance if a spot opened.
