After nearly a year racing in Sydney, Golden Path is back in Melbourne to launch his spring campaign.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding resumes in Saturday’s Sportsbet Blackbook Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield, with the Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18 a potential long-term goal.
Kent Jnr said the six-year-old thrived in Sydney last year, particularly when stepped up to 2000m. But wide draws in Group 1 company saw him finish several lengths off the winners.
Instead of resuming in the PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), connections have opted for a mile first-up with a claiming apprentice.
Barrier 13 poses a challenge, with Kent Jnr confirming he’ll be ridden conservatively to finish strongly ahead of a likely second-up run in the Heatherlie (1700m).
A proven 2000m performer, Golden Path is yet to race beyond that trip, but Kent Jnr is keen to test him over 2400m, with the The Metropolitan also on the radar.
