Farnan headlines star-studded trials at Randwick

Tulloch Lodge colt Farnan will make his first public appearance since winning the Golden Slipper at a star-studded barrier trial session at Randwick.

The three Group and Listed heats were originally scheduled for Tuesday but heavy rain prompted stewards to delay them.

Farnan will have nine rivals in Friday’s 850m trial, headed by Group One winners Kolding, Probabeel and Fierce Impact.

An early favourite for the Golden Rose, Farnan is pencilled in to resume in the Group Two The Run To The Rose (1200m) on September 12.

New Zealand mare Probabeel is closer to kicking off her carnival campaign with trainer Jamie Richards confirming she is on target to return at Randwick on Saturday week.

“She will run first up on the 22nd (of August), probably in the Show County,” Richards said.

The Group One Winx Stakes (1400m) is also held on the same day and will be the spring starting point for Doncaster Mile placegetter Brandenburg, who will contest Friday’s second 850m heat.

He lines up against Farnan’s stablemates Con Te Partiro and Wolfe, along with Godolphin’s Australian Oaks winner Colette.

There were also some blue-bloods on show at Thursday’s Newcastle race meeting.

Bucharest, a son of Deep Impact out of 2006 Golden Slipper winner Miss Finland, scored a debut win for trainer Chris Waller.

Waller has a good opinion of the colt and will consider setting him for the Group One Spring Champion Stakes.

Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace also produced an impressive Newcastle victor in three-year-old Jet Propulsion, a half brother to Group One winner Pierata.
