Trainer Mack Griffith believes both Compelling Truth and Crown Legend can outperform their odds in Sydney on Saturday.

Compelling Truth is the clear outsider in the Group 3 JRA Plate, quoted at $26 in the eight-horse field.

The 12-time winner has previously beaten race favourite The Instructor and ran second first-up last campaign to Group 1 placegetter Angel Capital at Moonee Valley.

“I don’t know whether it’s just because he’s a country-trained horse but he is fit and he’s well and I was very surprised at the price,” Griffith said.

“He’ll run a good, honest race like he always does and I’m just happy to get him back to the track.”

Compelling Truth resumes after an unplaced run in The Kosciuszko (1200m), a performance Griffith said came with excuses.

Crown Legend will also head to town for the Highway Plate (1500m) after a strong last-start win at Gunnedah.

“They don’t give us much chance in either race, but I think they will both go better than their odds suggest,” Griffith said.
