Webster a Happy Clapper with Group 1

Happy Clapper has returned to racing in Group One-winning form, claiming the $500,000 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, Happy Clapper came from sixth on the turn to run down the leader Global Glamour in the 1300m race run under weight-for-age conditions.

Loveable larrikan Pat Webster took forty years to win his first group 1 as a trainer but only a few months to bring up group 1 win number two.

“We will take on the mare (WINX) and probably run second then back for the Doncaster” Webster said following the dominant victory.

The victory is Happy Clapper’s second at Group One level after his success in last year’s Epsom Handicap.
