Hayes brothers confident Evaporate can shine in Golden Eagle switch

The Lindsay Park team of Ben, Will and J D Hayes are embracing the move of the $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) from Rosehill to Randwick this Saturday.

Their runner, Evaporate, will look to go one better after his narrow defeat in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on October 18.

Ben Hayes said the strong 1600m run should set the gelding up perfectly for Saturday’s challenge.

“He ran enormous in the Toorak,” Hayes said. “We just got beaten by Transatlantic who franked the form by coming out and winning in Sydney last week.”

After overcoming a minor foot issue earlier in the spring, Evaporate won the Sandown Stakes (1500m) before his Toorak second.

Hayes believes the Randwick switch will suit. “He won the Carbine Club up in Sydney earlier this year, so moving the race there might be an advantage for us,” he said. “He relaxes better on that Sydney leg.”
