Hayes confident Evaporate can strike in CF Orr Stakes

Lindsay Park’s Ben Hayes believes Evaporate is ready to match motors with elite sprinters Jimmysstar and Angel Capital in Saturday’s $1 million CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

The four-year-old Per Incanto gelding earned his shot at the 1400-metre Group 1 after a strong third in the Golden Eagle (1500m), his main spring goal.

“That’s the reason we’ve decided to run, he came back from Sydney and trotted up 100 percent sound and looked a million dollars, so we had no hesitation at all,” Hayes said.

Evaporate’s Golden Eagle placing followed a close second in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) and victory in the Sandown Stakes (1500m).

Drawn wide in a field of seven, Hayes sees the barrier as a positive.

“I actually like it… if he can jump well and get into a good rhythm, I think he’ll be very competitive,” he said.

Jamie Melham takes the ride, starting alongside Angel Capital and Jimmysstar.
