Henry Dwyer weighs up options for Prairie Flower

A study of the barrier draws along with the composition of the fields will determine if Prairie Flower runs in Adelaide or Melbourne on the weekend.

Prairie Flower is among nominations for the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville and the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trainer Henry Dwyer, who won the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush with debutant Hollerlujah last Saturday, said which race Prairie Flower contests would be determined where other entries head.

“There is a number that are dual nominated, so I’ll see where the others go,” Dwyer said.

“I think we’ll accept for both races, have a look at the barriers, see what else is in the field and work it out from there.”

Prairie Flower had two unplaced runs as a spring two-year-old before returning to win over 1100m at Ballarat last month.

Dwyer said circumstances were against Prairie Flowers in her first campaign.

“At her first start at The Valley on Cox Plate Day she had no chance the way the race panned out being caught wide the trip, going for home early and getting a bit tired late,” Dwyer said.

“Then second-up at Cranbourne she didn’t handle the bottomless track.

“We always thought she had ability, but she didn’t show it in the first prep, so we gave her the benefit of a break and she’s come back well this time.

“She’s doing everything in track work what she was doing last time, and she found a suitable race at Ballarat to start this prep which she didn’t have last time.”

Dwyer said Saturday’s contest would give him an idea where Prairie Flower may be placed in the future.

“It’s hard to know what these two-year-old races will be like at this time of the year,” Dwyer said.

“Some can be hard, some can be weak, you don’t really know until after the fact, but she’s a well-bred, nice type of filly, so you’ve got to have a crack at a bit of black type and work your way back if needed.”
