A return to Randwick and a rain-affected track could be the key to unlocking a breakthrough Group win for With Your Blessing in the Missile Stakes.
Trainer John Thompson was content—but not thrilled—with the gelding’s first-up fifth behind Romeo’s Choice, admitting he had expected more given the horse’s solid trackwork.
Randwick, however, is a different story. While With Your Blessing has managed just two placings from eight Rosehill runs, he boasts three wins and five placings from 12 Randwick starts.
“For some reason, he just doesn’t go as good at Rosehill as what he does at Randwick,” Thompson said.
“He tries. It’s a bit weird.”
Saturday’s heavy conditions should suit perfectly. Thompson recalled the gelding’s dominant win on a wet track at the The Gong meeting two years ago.
“He brained them,” Thompson said.
Thompson has scratched Opal Fields from the Midway Handicap, while Bundeena is likely to run in the Ranvet Handicap despite the track not being ideal.
