Coolmore Stud Stakes a long term plan for I Am Unstoppable

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell admitted being on edge prior to the running of a Stakes race at Sandown.

Kennewell had the $3 betr favourite I Am Unstoppable engaged in the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

A big fan of the I Am Invincible breed, Kennewell said I Am Unstoppable was potentially the best youngster he has trained.

Ridden by Zac Spain, I Am Unstoppable recorded a three-quarter length win from Apache Song ($6) with Waimarie ($6.50) a further 1-¼ lengths away third.

I Am Unstoppable remains unbeaten in two starts after winning on debut at Morphettville last month.

“He’s probably the best colt I’ve trained, and he’ll go to the paddock on that note and remain an unbeaten two-year-old Stakes-winning son of Vinnie, which are hard to come by,” Kennewell said.

“He’s got a huge pedigree. He gets me up in the morning and to be honest I don’t get too toey at the races, but today I was a little bit up and about again.

“He gets me feeling like that, this horse.”

Kennewell revealed I Am Unstoppable showed some issues in x-rays as a yearling, something the trainer and his vet Doc Lawler could live with, and he parted with $65,000 to secure the colt.

“I’ve bought a few horses with x-rays issues and a lot of them are faultless,” Kennewell said.

“I buy horses that are clean on x-ray, and they can have issue. It shows that there are no rules to it.”

Kennewell said the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival would be on I Am Unstoppable’s radar after his break.

“He hasn’t missed an oat, he’s got a great constitution for a colt and he’ll go out and it’s pretty straight-forward for him now,” Kennewell said.

“He comes back and kicks off as a three-year-old colt in those good stakes races and we’ll try and go to the Coolmore.”
