Inglis is again searching for a replacement runner in the $20 million Everest after Skybird was ruled out through injury.
The Lightning Stakes winner pulled up lame from her unplaced run in last week’s Manikato Stakes, with trainer Mitch Freedman confirming on Wednesday she would not recover in time.
“Trainer @Freedmanmitch today advised that Skybird will not be ready in time to contest The Everest this year as a result of the setback sustained in the Manikato Stakes,” Inglis said on social media platform X.
“While it is disappointing not to have Skybird represent Inglis in the race, the decision has been made in the best interests of the mare.”
It is not the first time Inglis has faced a late withdrawal. In 2022 their pick Snapdancer was sidelined with a hoof problem, leading to Private Eye’s inclusion — he finished second to Giga Kick.
With Skybird’s withdrawal, four Everest slots remain unfilled, with Godolphin, Mulberry Racing and Coolmore yet to lock in runners.
