Is It Me kicks off spring campaign with Behemoth Stakes test

Trainer Daniel Bowman believes Is It Me is destined for Group 1 glory, and Saturday’s Group 3 Behemoth Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville shapes as the first step towards that goal.

Returning first-up, the six-year-old gelding takes on unbeaten mare Cicala, with Bowman eyeing a path to the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 20.

“After his second start I said to my good mate Mitch Freedman that this horse will win a group one,” Bowman said.

While early on Is It Me relied on raw talent, Bowman said the penny finally dropped last prep, especially with the help of jockey Billy Egan.

His peak came with a Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap (1400m) win and a Racing and Sports rating of 116.

With Egan sidelined, Dean Yendall takes the ride on Saturday, potentially lining up for future races due to his lighter weight.

Is It Me is $4.40 for Saturday and $26 in Rupert Clarke betting.
