When it comes to winning rides, Jamie Kah has had the most success with Adelaide’s John Macmillan than any other trainer.

Jamie Kah will reunite with her old boss at Sandown when Arkham Knight makes the journey over from Adelaide.

Kah did her apprenticeship with Arkham Knight’s trainer John Macmillan who has supplied Melbourne’s leading rider with 90 winners from her career tally of 1009 victories.

Having been based in Melbourne since January 2019, Kah doesn’t ride too often for Macmillan these days but they reunite with Arkham Knight in Saturday’s Ladbroke It! Handicap (1300m).

Macmillan, who will remain in Adelaide for Saturday’s race not wanting to tempt his luck and have to do 14 days quarantine upon return, said it was good to have Kah ride Arkham Knight on Saturday.

“Normally if she’s available she’ll ride for me as she was apprenticed to me,” Macmillan said.

“But I still have to deal with her manager, but he’s pretty good with his form analysis, so I guess she wouldn’t be on it if they didn’t think it had a chance.”

Macmillan said it would be nice if he could play his little part in helping Kah towards the goal of becoming the first jockey to top the 100-win mark in Melbourne for the first time.

He supplied Kah with her maiden victory, at Clare in April 2012, and also her first Melbourne win when Highness scored at Moonee Valley in January 2013.

Macmillan said he still takes a lot of interest in Kah’s career and will flick her an odd text message or give her a call on a job well done.

Now he’s hoping he can give Kah a victory as a senior rider in Melbourne having provided her with two during her apprentice days and Macmillan thinks Arkham Knight could be the horse to do it.

“He’s won on good tracks, but he’s better on soft tracks and he’s had one start on the heavy, which he won, so he’ll thrive on it,” Macmillan said.

“First-up, he was beaten 1.4 lengths, but he did not see daylight.

“If he saw any clear running at all, he’d have won first-up.”
