Jimmysstar primed for CF Orr Stakes after dominant Sydney win

Trainer Ciaron Maher says the revamped Spring Carnival schedule has played perfectly into the hands of his star galloper Jimmysstar, who tackles Saturday’s Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Fresh from a commanding victory in the $3 million Russell Balding Stakes (1300m), Jimmysstar has returned to Melbourne in top form.

“He’s super. He’s in career best form,” Maher said.

A proven performer at 1400m, the six-year-old has also won over 1500m, and Maher believes the extra distance will bring out his best again.

“He’s just a good horse, right in that rich vein of form,” Maher said. “You can see what he did when he went to 1300 last start and he’ll be better again at 1400.”

Regular jockey Ethan Brown takes the ride on Saturday, with Jimmysstar currently second favourite at $2.80 behind Angel Capital ($2.50), who impressed when finishing strongly in The Everest.
