What the jockeys said Ajax Stakes

Michael Walker (Comin’ Through): “He used to fire up when he was younger. I might get him led to the start next time.”

“My Boss Sir Owen is here today. He is my good luck charm. Every time he is here I win on him. Hopefully that win gets him into the Doncaster I think he is a great hope.

“He wasn’t going to get them, then he kicked into gear. He is a funny horse. You have to ride him quiet and not go on him too early. Chris has done a tremendous job with this horse.”

Blake Shinn (Tom Melbourne): “He ran well, obviously first up 1500m. I think the critical thing that may have got him beat was when the winner let Prized Icon in at the 900m, the pace then dropped off and we got a pair further back. He got over-racing a bit which took a little bit away from his finish. First up he needed everything to go his way, which it didn’t, but still a very credible run.”

Corey Brown (Radipole): “Ran really well, he’s a funny horse just a bit one-paced. Heading towards the Doncaster with no weight on his back he’ll be a reasonable chance.”

Glyn Schofield (Prized Icon): “Had to do a little bit of work to get a spot, but from that point on he raced a little bit one-paced and is probably looking for further now.”

Craig Williams (McCreery): “He ran really well, having a nice run up the inside and saving ground, but he’s pulled up pretty quick after the race so I definitely think he would like some give in the track.”

Tim Clark (Arbeitsam): “Ran really well that run will top him off nicely.”

Brenton Avdulla (Cellarman): “He ran terrific, just got a bit crowded from the furlong onwards but he wasn’t beaten far.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Life Less Ordinary): “Run was okay, he ran into it along the rails, he just emptied out the last furlong. He’ll take nice improvement out of the run.”
