A jumpout at Terang will determined the first-up assignment for the Daniel Bowman-trained Begood Toya Mother.

Daniel Bowman said he would be guided by Tuesday morning’s hit-out as to whether the Group 1 winner commences his campaign at Sandown on Saturday or at Warrnambool on Wednesday week.

Begood Toya Mother is entered for the Listed Anniversary Stakes (1400m) on Saturday while the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m), the feature sprint of Warrnambool’s Three-Day Carnival is another option.

“We’ll just see how sharp he is,” Bowman said.

“If he’s sharp enough we’ll go to Warrnambool, but if he’s looking like he wants 1400 metres straight away we might go to the Anniversary.”

Begood Toya Mother was successful in the Group 1 Sir Ruper Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in September 2019, the last time the now seven-year-old was successful.

The gelding scored at Warrnambool, his home track, earlier that year while he also has a win at Sandown, scoring by 6-½ lengths two runs later, while one of his best runs since the Sir Rupert Clarke victory was when second in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at Sandown last September.

While Bowman will wait until he sees Begood Toya Mother in his jumpout, the trainer said Sandown was likely to suit the gelding better than Warrnambool.

“He really likes Sandown,” Bowman said.

“He won there by six-and-a-half lengths there one day and then got beaten a nose by Chaillot on another occasion.”

With the long break between visits to the winner’s enclosure, Bowman said he was not aiming too high this campaign.

“The Swan Hill Cup (in June) might be a nice race for him third or fourth up over a mile,” Bowman said.

The Anniversary Vase has attracted 20 nominations including Aramayo , Buffalo River, Excelida, Great Again and Heart Of Puissance.
