Kerrin McEvoy suspended at Randwick

Kerrin McEvoy will be back in time to partner Classique Legend when he resumes in The Shorts despite incurring a careless riding suspension out of the Chelmsford Stakes meeting.

The top hoop was outed on Saturday for allowing Broken Arrows to shift in near the 900m in the Acy Securities Handicap (1200m) won by the James Cummings-trained Geist.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was rubbed out for three meetings but significantly, won’t miss a Saturday.

He will begin his penalty after he rides at the Theo Marks Stakes card at Kembla Grange next weekend and can return the following Saturday when he is due to partner Classique Legend in The Shorts.

However, he will be sidelined for the feature Newcastle Cup program on September 17, which also includes the Cameron Handicap and Tibbie Stakes, although it is unclear if Sydney jockeys will be able to participate in the meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions.
