Killiana bounces back to win VOBIS Gold Rush after Showdown setback

Killiana missed a major VOBIS Gold payday in the $1 million The Showdown, finishing unplaced, but redeemed herself with a win in the VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo on Saturday.

The Lindsay Park-trained filly, by Brazen Beau, battled from a wide position to claim the $250,000 prize, which included an extra $30,000 in VOBIS bonuses.

This was only her third race, following an impressive debut victory at Bendigo, and co-trainer J D Hayes was pleased to see the $160,000 Inglis Premier yearling score a feature win.

“She’s very, very fast, and these VOBIS races with such good prizemoney make it easy to target them,” Hayes said.

“She’s done a great job this campaign, and I’m really proud of her recovery after her Showdown run.”

Jockey Michael Dee was content to settle Killiana wide early and noted her determination to finish strong despite the difficult race.

The filly won by a long-neck from $17 shot Salty Pearl, with another $17 outsider, Wintery, finishing third.
