King Of Pop will look to boost his chances of securing a valuable Gold Coast slot when he trials at Rosehill on Tuesday.
The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained three-year-old is entered for the opening 1030m heat, with a strong performance potentially enough to earn a place in the $3 million The Sunlight (1100m) on January 10.
The Sunlight, a slot race for three-year-olds, was introduced last year as part of the Magic Millions carnival.
King Of Pop showed early promise last season, winning on debut at Warwick Farm before claiming the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m).
He later finished midfield in the Group 1 Golden Slipper before running second in the Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).
A disappointing spring led to the gelding operation.
“He just didn’t quite come up,” Alexiou said.
“He has been gelded now, so hopefully we see the King Of Pop of old.”
Tuesday’s trial will determine whether he heads north, with Jay Ford booked to ride.
