With James Cummings set to depart Godolphin, nine of Australia’s top stables have been confirmed to take over horses under a new public training model starting August 1.

The NSW and Victorian-based trainers include Anthony and Sam Freedman, Ben, Will and JD Hayes, Bjorn Baker, Chris Waller, Ciaron Maher, Gary Portelli, Joe Pride, Michael Freedman, and Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Godolphin Australia managing director Andy Makiv said the quality of trainers involved was cause for confidence.

“We were delighted with the interest shown, the trainers we did meet with, and ultimately the trainers we have engaged,” Makiv said.

“This doesn’t preclude opportunities for others in the future.”

Star gallopers have already been allocated — Tom Kitten joins Tentyris with the Freedmans, Zardozi and Tempted head to Maher, Golden Mile goes to Pride, Pericles to Baker, and both Commemorative and Beiwacht move to Waller.

Cummings will begin his new role in Hong Kong for the 2026–27 season.
