Lindhout aims for two straight at Flemington

Lindhout chases a second Flemington win when she runs in the RMBL Investments Rising Stars Final.

With each start that lightly-raced Lindhout has, trainer Enver Jusufovic sees benefit which he hopes can carry the mare to a second successive win at Flemington.

Lindhout scored in the Leilani Series Final (1400m) on July 3 and returns to the same course and distance on Saturday for the RMBL Investments Rising Stars Final.

The difference this time is Craig Newitt has been replaced by Carleen Hefel in the apprentices only race.

Hefel is no stranger to Lindhout, having ridden the mare to victory on debut at Bendigo last October and at her three subsequent starts.

“Carleen’s first ride at Bendigo, she did a magnificent job just to stay on when the horse came out sideways out of the barriers,” Jusufovic told RSN.

Jusufovic said the daughter of Time For War had previously been a little bit of handful, but with racing, and maturity, had settled down.

And even in the two weeks since her last win the trainer has seen improvement.

“I can’t fault her at home and her mannerisms seem to have improved,” Jusufovic said.

“I certainly respect the opposition, a couple of them are early in their prep and they’ll improve while we’re deep into our prep, so that may be interesting, but on weights and measures you would think she will be hard to beat.”

Jusufovic said he would instruct Hefel to leave her run to as late as possible, just a Newitt did in Lindhout’s latest victory.

“At Craig’s first ride on her I felt he got to the front a shade early and she got a bit lost, but he certainly got it right last time,” Jusufovic said.

“If Carleen can do the same, and I’m sure she can, I’m hoping for a similar result.”
