Lindsay Park on verge of Melbourne century

Lindsay Park about to crack the century.

While Darren Weir remains well clear in this season’s Melbourne trainers’ premiership, the Lindsay Park stable is closing in on a milestone of its own.

The Lindsay Park team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig has 98 metropolitan winners in Victoria this season and could reach 100 as early as Wednesday at Sandown.

David Hayes reached the century during his premiership-winning season in 2006/07 when he prepared 103 metropolitan winners in Victoria.

Lee Freedman, Peter Moody and reigning premier trainer Weir are the only others to reach 100.

Weir has already passed the previous record of 115 set by Freedman in 2005/06.

Weir sits on 117 Melbourne winners this season, having broken a century for the first time last season when he finished with 106.

Lindsay Park has five horses scheduled to run at Wednesday’s Sandown meeting.
