Linebacker’s trainers focus on strong home work ahead of Randwick Guineas

After a disappointing Hobartville Stakes performance, trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton are looking to Linebacker’s strong home training as a better indicator of his Randwick Guineas chances.

The three-year-old finished sixth in the Hobartville (1400m), trailing by over three lengths to winner Broadsiding after drifting back in the field.

Charlton admits uncertainty over the run but emphasizes the horse’s good work at home.

“It was hard to gauge from where he was in the race, and he didn’t get the chance to balance and build momentum,” Charlton explained.

“We’re confident he’s going well enough to perform well. Whether it’s enough to beat Broadsiding remains to be seen.”

Charlton expects a more prominent position for Linebacker in the upcoming Randwick Guineas (1600m) after previously anticipating a stalking run in the Eskimo Prince.

Zac Lloyd will ride Linebacker for the first time in the feature, which will be pivotal in determining his next race, whether it’s the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) or Doncaster Mile (1600m).

He will be joined by stablemates Athabascan and Junqueira in other races.
