Luke Pepper chasing a Dream result at Kembla Grange

The snap lockdown of the ACT has forced trainer Luke Pepper to scramble to ensure his team of horses can race this weekend, including Kembla Grange hopeful Glorious Dream.

The Canberra-based horseman has four runners across three venues on Saturday and he isn’t permitted to travel to any of them.

“I’ve got four runners tomorrow, one at Kembla, one at Goulburn and two at Narrandera and we’re lucky we’ve had some good people to help out,” Pepper said.

“It has been a logistical nightmare.”

Lightly-raced mare Glorious Dream will lead Pepper’s charge when she steps up to Saturday metropolitan grade in the Bowermans Commercial Furniture Handicap (1400m).

She will be shooting for a poignant victory for her sire, Mossman, who died at Vinery Stud last week aged 26.

A winner at Goulburn on a heavy track two starts ago, Glorious Dream proved she was just as adept on dry ground when doing her best work late for third behind Centimental on the Kensington track last start.

If she can measure up on Saturday, Pepper is hopeful she might put herself in the frame for selection in the Kosciuszko and, longer term, on a path to the Country Championships.

“We had her set for the Country Championships last year and she went in the wind, so she had to undergo surgery and that put paid to that,” Pepper said.

“I’d like to think she can run a really good race tomorrow and is an each-way chance and if she could win it would be a great result for the owners.

“They’ve been incredibly patient and if she could come back from surgery and win a Saturday race it would mean a lot.”

Pepper has 20 horses in work at Canberra and has been in terrific form with nine winners from his past 50 runners.
