Ryan Maloney enjoyed a standout afternoon at Doomben, booting home four winners — including both $160,000 Listed races on the program.
The Victorian-born jockey gave favourite backers a perfect start, guiding $2.50 elect Midnight In Tokyo to victory in the Tattersall’s Classic (1200m), before producing a well-timed ride to win the Recognition Stakes aboard Rockribbed.
Rockribbed ($7.50) prevailed by a nose over stablemate Boomtown Boss, the $3.20 favourite who struck interference 150m from home.
“I’ve had a bit of luck going my way with a few of the boys being on the sidelines and I was the lucky one to pick up the, well, not scraps by any means,” Maloney said.
He acknowledged Rockribbed enjoyed a kinder run than last start but still had challenges.
“I didn’t have any options bar to go back to the inside, but he was too good.”
Midnight In Tokyo snapped an 18-month drought with a dominant win, with Maloney impressed by the ease of her performance.
“We controlled it… I was basically just a passenger,” he said.
His other winners included Space Tracker and Silver Wedding, helping extend his Brisbane premiership lead to eight wins.
