Sky Command looking to breakthrough in The Nivison

The promise of a wet track combined with a return to Randwick has co-trainer Gerald Ryan upbeat about the prospects of Sky Command notching a breakthrough stakes success in The Nivison.

The four-year-old has won three of her 12 starts, two of them coming early in her career on heavy tracks.

Ryan also believes she has an affinity for Randwick where she has raced five times for a win and two placings, including a gutsy third behind Zapateo and Jamea in the Toy Show Quality (1100m) two starts ago.

“She has come back well and she doesn’t mind the wet ground,” Ryan said.

“Her first-up run was really good and her form at Randwick is very good, better than it is elsewhere.

“She’s won at Randwick and she ran really well in that mares’ race fresh-up.”

A daughter of Deep Field, Sky Command wasn’t disgraced last start when midfield behind Everest contender Shades Of Rose in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) on a good track at Rosehill.

While she is yet to win beyond 1100m, her effort to tough out the finish in the Toy Show has Ryan optimistic she can see out Saturday’s 1200m journey.

“There was a question mark on her at 1200 prior to her first-up run but she stuck it out really well,” he said.

“She’s trained on well and she worked terrific on Monday morning.”

Regan Bayliss will ride Sky Command, who has drawn barrier seven and is a $10 chance in an open betting race where nine of the 11 runners are $15 and under.
