UK import Bur Dubai will launch his spring campaign at Moonee Valley on Saturday in the EDSA Group Handicap (1600m), as connections eye a path to the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.
Now in his second Australian preparation, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding wrapped up his debut campaign with a strong win over 2500m at The Valley in March.
“There’s always dreams, but with his rating he’s got to win his way there and we’ll let him tell us whether he’s up to it,” Kent Jnr said.
He’ll start over the mile but will build to longer distances, with 2500m being his optimal trip.
Connections are targeting the Group 3 The Archer and The Bart Cummings—both ‘win and you’re in’ qualifiers for the Melbourne Cup.
“In my time, I would say I’ve never seen a horse so clean winded,” Kent Jnr added.
“Whether he’s got the class to win nice staying races, we will see, but he’s clearly got a big capacity for work.”
