Spring Carnival hopefuls to enter quarantine

Four international horses and one returning Australian sprinter have been confirmed on the first shipment of horses for the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Racing Victoria has given El Bodegon, My Oberon, Night Endeavor and Rodrigo Diaz the green light to enter quarantine in the UK.

They will need to pass a third physical examination by an RV appointed vet before travelling to Melbourne where they will be stabled at the Werribee International Horse Centre.

Prior to racing in Melbourne during the Spring Carnival, they will need to undergo a further examination before being allowed to race.

The strict veterinary measures came about following the deaths of in recent years of The Cliffsofmoher and Anthony Van Dyck in the Melbourne Cups.

Joining the quartet on the first shipment will be the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Artorius who is returning to Victoria having campaigned in England and France in recent months.

RV has also granted provisional approval for Melbourne Cup entrants Camorra, Loft and Without A Fight to enter quarantine in the UK on September 26 and undergo a third test before heading to Melbourne on the second shipment of horses bound for the Werribee International Horse Centre.

RV expects other international horses to be among first acceptors for the Melbourne Cup on September 6 that have yet to undergo scanning or have their test results submitted for review by the international imaging panel.

Already RV has had confirmation from the connections of Cleveland, Northern Ruler, State Of Rest, Taskhan and Trawlerman that they will not be travelling to Melbourne for the Spring Carnival.
