Anthony and Sam Freedman will give It’s A Lock In and Elderberry a shot at a metropolitan win as a juvenile after proving themselves too good for country rivals last time out.

The duo will run in the 1100-metre two-year-old fillies event that kicks off Saturday’s Caulfield card.

It’s A Lock In heads there off a runaway Casterton win with Elderberry successful at Moe and Freedman stable racing manager Brad Taylor said both earned a shot at the $150,000 race.

“This is obviously a step up in class going to metropolitan level, but both have trained on well and we’re hoping they can put their hands up,” Taylor said.

It’s A Lock In, a daughter of Russian Revolution who strolled home by six lengths over 1000m at her second start, is more favoured in the market but Elderberry is the one who has already been tested at a higher level.

The daughter of Bolt d’Oro was sent out a $6 chance in a Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview on debut, finishing ninth in the race won by stablemate De Sonic Boom, before a fourth placing in a Moe maiden ahead of a spell.

The OTI Racing-owned filly trialled up nicely ahead of her return, which resulted in a soft 1-1/2-length win over 1100m, which Taylor said was a relief to see.

“We’ve always had a bit of time for her from day one,” he said.

“It just came a little bit too soon, but she has returned from a break in good order. She showed that first-up with a good win at Moe.”

Ben Allen, who rode Elderberry in the Moe win, retains the ride at Caulfield with Wiremu Pinn to partner It’s A Lock In.
