Midnight In Tokyo out to break stakes drought in W.J Healy Stakes

Annabel and Rob Archibald are hoping consistent mare Midnight In Tokyo can finally break through when she contests the Group 3 W.J Healy Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The five-year-old has competed in stakes or group races 16 times, picking up seven placings—five of those under the Archibald partnership.

She’s placed in both starts this prep, including a close third in the Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) on June 7.

Though initially nominated for the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), Rob Archibald confirmed the focus remains on sprint trips.

“We’ll stick to the 1200 with her,” he said. “She runs well, she always tries… she’s got a very short turn of foot.”

Rachel King takes the ride from barrier two at 54kg.

Midnight In Tokyo was scratched from the Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) last week due to a wide draw.

Her next likely target is the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 15.

“She just needs to get that stakes win and we’ll be happy,” Archibald said.
