Black Caviar’s son to debut at Moe

The next chapter in Black Caviar’s career as a broodmare will unfold on Tuesday with the second-most-recent foal out of the former champion sprinter to debut at Moe.

I Am Caviar, a colt by I Am Invincible, will contest the $27,000 JP Conveyancing Maiden Plate (1000m).

The three-year-old, who is the sixth foal from the daughter of Bel Esprit and Helsinge, will become the fifth to race from the undefeated 15-time Group 1 winner but is striving to be the first to win on debut.

Oscietra (Exceed And Excel), Prince Of Caviar (Sebring) and Invincible Caviar (I Am Invincible) were all beaten at their first start but have won races, while Ready For Caviar (More Than Ready) was retired after two starts. Out Of Caviar (Snitzel) did not make it to the races.

I Am Caviar, who is prepared by Black Caviar’s former trainer Peter Moody, has been given a solid grounding for his debut, including two jumpouts and an official trial in April and May, plus two jumpouts this time in work.

The most recent was a 750m hitout on the Pakenham synthetic track on August 23 when I Am Caviar was aggressively-ridden to score a one-length win over unraced Magnus three-year-old Mr Tickles in a time of 44.45 seconds.

I Am Caviar has drawn barrier three in the field of 12 at Moe, where he will be partnered by Luke Nolen , who rode Black Caviar to 22 of her 25 wins, including 14 at Group 1 level.

Black Caviar returned to I Am Invincible after having I Am Caviar in the spring of 2019 but failed to get in-foal before visiting Written Tycoon the following spring, a mating that produced a filly who is now a yearling.

After missing to Extreme Choice early last spring, she was sent back to I Am Invincible but also failed to get in-foal meaning she will not have a foal this season.
