Motorsports delivers Blue Sapphire win as McEvoys celebrate from afar

Tony and Calvin McEvoy may have been interstate preparing for Calvin’s wedding, but that didn’t stop them rounding out a standout spring with another feature win at Caulfield.

The father-and-son team claimed the $250,000 Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) with Motorsports, watching the race from a South Australian hotel surrounded by family and friends ahead of Sunday’s celebrations.

Harry Coffey, a trusted stable rider and wedding guest, guided the Street Boss filly to a comfortable three-quarters-of-a-length victory.
“We’ve got a big day tomorrow with the McEvoy clan and I’m happy to be still invited to the wedding after that,” Coffey joked.
“I’d be saying there’d be a pretty rowdy pub in Adelaide somewhere right now.”

Motorsports, the $4 favourite, defeated Recuperato and Regeneration, topping off an extraordinary spring that also saw the stable secure the Caulfield–Melbourne Cup double with Half Yours.

Coffey said he was grateful for the chance to reunite with the Godolphin-owned filly after initially missing her debut due to his baby’s impending arrival.
“She’s a ripping filly… She’s a pleasure to ride, she does things right and she has a turn of foot,” he said.
