Champion trainer Chris Waller is eyeing a second win in the Australasian Oaks after Movin Out claimed her maiden Australian victory at Mornington.
The New Zealand-bred filly was explosive in the Mornington Guineas (1600m), rounding up the opposition to win by 2-½ lengths.
Sent out as the $4.40 favourite under Ben Melham, she defeated Storm Season ($6) and Fear No Evil ($5.50), who finished second and third, respectively.
After two Sydney starts, Movin Out made her Melbourne debut in Saturday’s race, with Waller’s Melbourne representative Lizzie Collett confirming the filly would now target the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville next Saturday.
“She’s a quirky character, but she did everything right today,” Collett said. “The plan is to hopefully go to the Oaks next week in Adelaide.”
Melham, impressed by her dominant performance, is confident she’ll handle the 2000m distance if she stays relaxed during the race.
