Mr Brightside scores again at Sandown

Lindsay Park galloper Mr Brightside has extended his winning sequence to three with another comfortable win at Sandown.

The New Zealand-bred four-year-old by Bullbars, took out the IVE>Print Handicap (1600m) on Wednesday which followed his win at the course on August 1.

Now with Ben and JD Hayes, Mr Brightside had one start in New Zealand before joining Lindsay Park.

After a first-up second in a maiden at Bendigo, Mr Brightside has gone on to win his last three starts.

Ridden by Craig Williamson, Mr Brightside, the $2.35 favourite raced to a 1-½ length win from Eagles Crag ($2.90) with Austrata ($26) a length away third.

The Hayes brothers believe Mr Brightside has the capabilities to rise to higher grade and have likened the horse to He’s Our Rokkii, a Group 1 winner for Lindsay Park.

But JD Hayes said the stable won’t be rushed into pushing Mr Brightside too high, too soon.

“It’s his first preparation here in Australia and he might be a year away from getting to those higher races,” Hayes said.

“We’ll just take him through his grades. There’s plenty of prize money to collect before we take on the big boys.

“It takes a pretty smart horse to win three races in a row.

“We’ve got a good opinion of him and he’s going through his grades nicely.

“That was a good win.”

Williams, who has ridden Mr Brightside in his three victories, said there was a lot to like about the way the gelding has continued to develop.

“I love the way his attitude is going the right way,” Williams said.

“He keeps raising the bar and he keeps raising the effort as well.”
