Trainer John McArdle is keeping his options open as My Gladiola prepares for an autumn sprint campaign at the highest level.
The filly’s first potential target is the Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington, where she could resume in just over a week.
My Gladiola edged out Giga Kick in an 800-metre trial at Caulfield Heath on Thursday, with that rival also slated to resume in the Lightning.
The straight-course Group 1 appeals, particularly with regular rider Jamie Mott able to take the mount.
A start in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) would require a jockey change due to weight conditions.
McArdle said Flemington suits the filly, who boasts a strong record down the straight.
“It works that we can accept in the Lightning and if it doesn’t work, we can go back to the Oakleigh Plate, but she is a very effective horse down the straight,” McArdle said.
“She needed the hit-out and the best part of it was she relaxed during the run which is what she needs to do,” he said.
My Gladiola has not raced since finishing third in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m), following a second in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
