Mo’Unga set for Cox Plate 2022

Nash Rawiller is not a jockey to die wondering.

For that reason, there is the likelihood Rawiller could do something unexpected when he partners Mo’Unga in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Rawiller does not like to sit back in races and let them unfold.

He would rather make it happen and if that means making an early move on Mo’unga, he will.

Mo’unga, along with Zaaki and Laws Of Indices, is one of three runners Annabel Neasham has in the Cox Plate and Rawiller will be having his first ride on the entire on Saturday.

A former Rosehill Guineas winner, Mo’unga has had three starts in Melbourne this campaign preparing for the 2022 Cox Plate.

He finished third to Cox Plate opponents I’m Thunderstruck and Alligator Blood in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington before running second in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes behind Alligator Blood at Sandown.

The race did not pan out for Mo’unga when finishing last behind Anamoe in the Might And Power Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 8.

He needs to be wound up and he hasn’t had that opportunity, especially last time,” Rawiller said of the Might And Power performance.

A noted lazy track worker, Rawiller had some confidence in the entire saying he was up on his toes with the crowd that was on hand at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning.

“I think in a race he can be a bit lazy, but after riding him on Tuesday I’ve got a bit of confidence about him,” Rawiller said.

“If they get going at the half-mile, it would be good to get on something’s back, and if they’re not, then I’m the one that is likely to get going.

“He’s a beautiful horse and I’m looking forward to riding him.”
