Nashville Jack impresses on return, Rosebud next in sight

Emerging colt Nashville Jack is poised to target the Rosebud at Rosehill following a dominant return victory at Randwick.

Trained by Brad Widdup, the colt resumed in Saturday’s Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1100m), storming home for a two-length win under Jason Collett.

Nashville Jack had shown promise in the autumn, running well in both the Silver Slipper and Black Opal Stakes.

“He has run in the Silver Slipper and his run was very good in the (Black) Opal when he came in with a shoe sticking halfway up his foot,” Widdup said.

“I was ‘umming and ahhing’ whether to run him in a maiden Wednesday. It’s just great to see him come back and return like that.”

Collett said the colt had plenty left in the tank.

“He’s a nice horse. He has got a bit of substance to him,” he said.

“He trialled really good coming into it… that was a good performance.”

The Rosebud (1100m) on August 16 now shapes as the logical next step.

By leading first-season sire Farnan, Nashville Jack is raced by Everest slot holders Mulberry and cost $225,000 at the Inglis Easter Sale.
