The Golden Slipper may arrive a bit early, yet the Newcastle-based filly She’s Extra remains a prospect for the carnival following her impressive second career victory at Warwick Farm.
The Exceedance daughter followed her four-length triumph at her home track on February 14 by dominating Wednesday’s All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud (1100m) Handicap with a 3-1/4 length margin over Promenade.
Danny Greer, speaking for trainer Kris Lees, revealed that the team is targeting an entry in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in a fortnight, assuming She’s Extra recovers well from her latest success at Warwick Farm.
The Golden Slipper (1200m) follows a week later, and considering the short turnaround, the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 11 appears a stronger option for the future.
“There is a two-year-old fillies’ race next Saturday. Should she come through this well, which hopefully she does, we will nominate for that,” Greer said.
“We will take our path from there. She might even be a Percy Sykes type of horse, but Kris will map a plan.”
Greer noted that She’s Extra has consistently displayed superior talent, and her achievements in securing victories in her initial two outings while adapting to Sydney-level competition deserve recognition.
“It’s not easy to do for any horse, especially to go from a provincial race to a metro race,” he said.
“She has done it in good style, and she paraded really well today. She is a very professional type.”
Gerald Ryan holds ambitious goals for Just Maz, who mirrors She’s Extra’s undefeated record after two races, having claimed Wednesday’s Ranvet Handicap (1300m) on top of her initial success at Canterbury back in January.
The three-year-old, owned by a syndicate featuring businessman John Singleton, is set for the Group 3 James H B Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 18.
“That was the plan and that’s why we gave her the break after her first start,” Ryan said.
“She chased them down well, and was going to the line with her ears pricked. I don’t think we’ve gotten to the bottom of her yet.”
