Trainer Jason Warren and the connections of Benedetta are weighing up her future after her run in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Benedetta, making her Moonee Valley debut, impressed Warren with a gallop at the track on Tuesday. Warren is keeping options open for the five-year-old mare, with her performance on Saturday to guide the next steps.
“We’ve got three options,” Warren said. “We could head to Sydney for the T J Smith, freshen her up for the Sangster in Adelaide, or consider a trip to England with added incentives for horses that travel.”
Warren added that a win on Saturday would likely favour a run in the T J Smith, but for now, the focus remains on the race ahead.
Benedetta, with a Group 1 victory under her belt, has experience at Moonee Valley, although she missed the William Reid Stakes two years ago after a gallop there. Warren believes the mare just needs some luck.
First-up, she finished third in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) and tenth in the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington. Daniel Stackhouse will ride Benedetta on Saturday.
