Superstorm will attempt to break his Melbourne maiden status when he runs first-up at Caulfield.
Now in the care of Danny O’Brien after being prepared in Perth by Grant & Alana Williams, Superstorm makes his return in the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.
It will be the first time the son of Sebring has been seen since stepping out in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill last October.
Owner Bob Peters said Superstorm needed some surgery following that outing.
“He had a little chip,” Peters told RSN.
“It was only small and it could have stayed there in the fetlock joint, but I decided to take it out and he’s had no trouble with that ever since.”
Peters said it had been a strange preparation for Superstorm.
The gelding was delayed in Perth with stablemate Inspirational Girl before they made the trip across to join the O’Brien stable.
“They were meant to go over earlier but we couldn’t fly them,” Peters said.
“They had their pre-training done here with Grant and Alana before they left but he’s had a good preparation. He’s come through trouble free.”
Peters believes with the long lay-off Superstorm may need Saturday’s run, but long term is looking forward to the spring.
However, he is unsure what the best trip for the gelding will be.
He ran second to Alligator Blood in the Australian Guineas in 2020 and followed up running second to stablemate Regal Power in the All-Star Mile.
“He’s had a long spell and he will be a little rusty, I would think,” Peters said.
“There are horses in the race that have had racing under their belts, so I would like to see him coming home well like he can do and see that will show if he’s on track.”
