Planet Red made it two wins from as many starts with a determined performance in the MRC Membership Feel The Thrill Handicap (1200m) at Sandown.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding, who scored on debut at Pakenham in May, was sent out the $1.85 favourite and held off Vega For Luck by a long neck, with Bingi third.
Kent Jnr said Stakes racing is now on the radar.
“No doubt Stakes class beckons for him now… we’ve got a Black Type horse, it’s just a matter of what level he fits into,” he said.
Both Kent Jnr and jockey Mark Zahra believe Planet Red will handle longer distances, with his breeding suggesting he could stretch to a mile.
Zahra said the three-year-old was a touch outside his comfort zone.
“I had to keep asking him every furlong… but he kept picking up and he was strong at the end,” he said.
