Politely Dun is hoping to secure a spot in the Group 1 Queensland Derby with a strong performance at Flemington on Saturday.
The horse was initially set to compete in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) on May 3, but a blood issue derailed those plans. Instead, the Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on May 31 is now on the horizon, contingent on a solid run in the Sir Henry Bolte Handicap (2000m).
Politely Dun, who hasn’t raced in six weeks, last finished second to Statuario over 2400m at Caulfield on April 5, with Statuario later placing second in the South Australian Derby.
Trainer Danny O’Brien had considered the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington on April 25 but opted to focus on the South Australian Derby before the horse’s blood results caused a delay.
“Clinically he’s been fine… so he’ll run on Saturday, and provided he runs well, he will go two weeks into the Queensland Derby,” O’Brien said.
Jordan Childs will ride Politely Dun, who will start from barrier nine in a field of 18 plus four emergencies.
