Team Snowden continue Magic Millions preparations

Peter Snowden is in no doubt the right decision was made to postpone the remaining eight races on Saturday’s postponed Magic Millions Day card, and their three hopes in the 2yo Classic remain on track to perform well on Thursday.

Empire Of Japan ($4.60 favourite), Sovereign Fund ($6.50), and Godfather ($31) compensated for the missed runs on Saturday with gallops on Sunday morning at their Gold Coast base.

“They coped really well,” Snowden told RSN.

“Their work has been perfect and they haven’t taken any harm from it.

“They’re in really good order and their work yesterday (Sunday) was really good.

“Now we’re just marking time over the next few days but they’re holding their form.”

The stable has been consistent in rating Empire Of Japan as their main chance and that position hasn’t changed even after the disruption to the running of the Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) worth $2 million, and the other feature races postponed.

Though he says that the move is less advantageous for the race favourite.

“Empire Of Japan would have been flattered by the heavy track on Saturday for sure,” he adds.

“On drier track, he still runs well, but the rain definitely would have been an advantage for him had they run.

“He’s probably got the best turn-of-foot of my three but I’m not say the others aren’t without a chance either.”

In the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) the stable has favourite Russian Conquest ($4) and also King Of Sparta ($1.90 favourite) in the Magic Millions Snippets (1200m).

Snowden says both horses will find what will hopefully be a drier surface by Thursday a positive.

“They’d both have been 100-1 if they’d gone around on Saturday,” he said.

Less than one millimetre of rain is predicted across Tuesday to Thursday across the Gold Coast region with temperatures of 27 to 28 degrees.
