Emerging sprint star Private Harry has secured his first Group 1 victory in a stunning performance in The Galaxy at Rosehill, delivering a dream result for trainer Nathan Doyle and jockey Ashley Morgan.

The three-year-old colt, unbeaten in four starts, was the $3.50 favourite and delivered on expectations in the 1100m feature. After sitting just behind the leaders, Private Harry surged in the home straight to win by three-quarters of a length over Front Page, with Uncommon James in third.

Doyle, claiming his first Group 1 win, was emotional after the race. “To win a Group 1, with Ash, the staff, Kurrinda Bloodstock, it means so much,” he said.

Having planned for The Galaxy after Private Harry’s victory in the $3 million Sunlight 3YO Plate, Doyle was thrilled to see the colt’s progress. “We’re only scratching the surface with him,” he said.

Looking ahead, Doyle plans to run Private Harry in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick in two weeks, with The Everest also in his sights.

Jockey Morgan, who has ridden Private Harry in all of his starts, described winning a Group 1 as an “amazing feeling” after years of hard work.
