Queensland Derby win special for Parker

Trainer Kerry Parker had an extra reason to be thrilled he won his first Group One race victory with Dark Dream because he could share it with his son Aaron.

“It was the first time Aaron has taken a horse away and it is a great thrill for us all. I have three sons but Aaron is the only one in racing,” he said after his Queensland Derby win at Doomben on Saturday.

Parker worked for Les Bridge in the 1980s and strapped Drawn to win the 1985 Caulfield Guineas.

He moved to Kembla Grange to ride work for David Vandyke and gained his trainer’s licence in 1991.

He has trained six Group one placegetters, including Brilliant Light, who was third to Rangirangdoo in the 2010 Doncaster Mile.

But Parker’s best previous efforts were with Aliyana Tilde, who was runner-up in the 2012 ATC Oaks and placed in the 2013 Sydney Cup.
