The initial foal out of champion mare Winx, who dominated global headlines exactly two years ago around this time, is set to bypass any racing career.
The Kepitis family’s Woppitt Bloodstock outfit, having invested $10 million in the Pierro filly and christening her Quinceanera, revealed the development through a social media post on Wednesday morning.
Footage of the filly while under the guidance of trainer Chris Waller, responsible for Winx’s extraordinary achievements, indicated the choice stemmed from veterinary input and Waller’s judgment.
“Although disappointing, it’s in her best interest to now begin her career as a broodmare,” the statement read.
Details on the stallion she will go to in her debut breeding campaign later this year were not disclosed.
This retirement news broke on the second anniversary of her purchase at Inglis’s Easter sale, with Debbie Kepitis successfully outbidding US buyer John Stewart to secure ownership.
As one of Winx’s three part-owners, Kepitis shared in the success of the mare who triumphed in 37 of 43 outings – including an unmatched streak of 33 straight wins with 25 Group 1s – banking close to $26.5 million in earnings.
One of Winx’s only two live foals, Quinceanera joins a Snitzel colt born in 2024 that was slated for the recent Inglis Easter Sale but got scratched close to the event due to a training hiccup.
Following the birth of her Snitzel colt, Winx enjoyed a breeding hiatus before heading to Darley resident Too Darn Hot last year.
