Racing Integrity at 37th Asian Racing Conference

“The enduring strength of the Asian Racing Conference’s is that they have been able to provide a market place of ideas, and innovations that will shape our sport’s future,” stated Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Chairman Asian Racing Federation in opening invitations for the 37th Asian Racing Conference in Soul, Korea on 13-18 May.

“Protecting our brand reputation as a sport that operates with integrity and fairness through a commitment to prohibited substances-free racing, facilitating the internationalisation of the sport by removing impediments to the movement of horses.” Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges stated.

“The safeguarding the lifeblood of racing’s funding through developing means to protect our intellectual property rights, enhancing the wagering choices that we can offer to our customers through such initiatives as commingling are other key crucial matters which the ARCs have been instrumental in addressing over the past decade.”

In established an ARF Anti-Illegal Betting Taskforce following the 36th Asian Racing Conference in Mumbai in January 2016 this Conference will share with delegates the progress made on this front.

Leading sports law identity Professor Jack Anderson will deliver ‘Sports Integrity Under The Microscope’ addressing the key integrity threats to world sport and discovering how these sporting bodies are responding, and unearth what challenges lie ahead.

Growing up near Tipperary Racecourse in Ireland Professor Anderson has had a lifelong interest in thoroughbred and greyhound racing.  Going onto to be Professor of Law at Queen’s University in Belfast today he is Director of Sports Law at the University of Melbourne, and a member of Arbitration of Sport.

In his primary interest of the relationship between sport and the law Professor Anderson is currently producing works on the corruption in sport, focusing on the links between match fixing and money laundering. Previously as Editor-in-Chief of the International Law Journal he delivered papers and workshops on match-fixing.

In looking at racing integrity Justice Jack Forrest will address delegates on ‘Global Racing Integrity-Issues and Responses,’ drawing oh his vast experience in law, racing knowledge and experiences in racing administration.

His Honour has over 40 years legal experience, having been a Queen’s Counsel and later a Justice of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court. Justice Forrest is a founding member of the Racing Victoria Integrity Council and a Director of Racing Analytical Services Ltd.

Recently appointed as an IFHA Reference Laboratory His Honour has had a life-long passion for racing being a licenced trainer for over 10 years, as well as an owner, breeder and rider.

Now with Racing’s integrity being seen-to the door is open for Victoria Carter ONZM and Anna Seitz Ciannello to take us into ‘Diversifying Racing’s Fan Base,’ with the challenges and opportunities that racing has to reach and expand its fan base now, and into the future.

Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Victoria Carter ONZM will draw on her deep racing, business and political experience to identify what needs to change for racing to expand its fan and participant base into the future.

Anna Seitz Ciannello will tell the highlights of Global Glamour, a multiple Group 1 winner in Australia., owned by 40 women of It’s All About the Girls all-female ownership. Anna is Fasig-Tipton’s Client Development and Public Relations Manager who launched It’s About the Girls in America in 2013 and has expanded into Australia and Ireland.

Racing’s success in the competitive global sporting marketplace depends on its ability to evolve and expand its fan and participant base across generations, genders and cultures.
